LESSON 01 OF 07

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Son of God who is on the throne. He reigns over all and all of His kingdom there will be no end.

"And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

— Matthew 3:17, Mark 1:11, Luke 3:22

The book of John 1:14 explains that Jesus is the Word of God that became flesh. The Word that was in the beginning with God and the Word that is God. All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Jesus the Word of God is life and the life is the light of men.

Jesus is…
The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). Our Saviour (Luke 2:11). The gift of God (John 4:10). The salvation God prepared for all mankind — a light to bring revelation to all men (Luke 2:30). Immanuel — "God with us" (Matthew 1:23).

We believe that Jesus Christ was sent by God for the redemption of all mankind as the ultimate sacrifice. His death took away the sins of the whole world. Without His death we would not have access to the Father and will have perished in sin. Not only did He die — we believe that He resurrected and that He is coming again.

"Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."

— Matthew 24:30 NKJV

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

— John 14:3 NKJV

As Christians we live following the example of Jesus Christ in all we do.

"For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps."

— 1 Peter 2:21 NKJV

"Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ."

— 1 Corinthians 11:1 NKJV

reflect.

Jesus is not a concept to study — He is a person to know. The Pharisees knew every verse but missed Him standing right in front of them. Do you know Him, or do you only know about Him?

next step

Read John 1:1-18 slowly. Don't study it — sit with it. Ask the Holy Spirit to make it personal. Write down what stands out.
